The University of Tennessee is going to award Al Gore an honorary degree this morning. A number of folks in the comment section of this article criticized UT for once awarding an honorary degree to Dolly Parton.  Unlike Gore, Dolly–a great entertainer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist–obtained her wealth by providing a service people are willing to pay for voluntarily instead of imposing her agenda through force.  Dolly’s amusement park, Dollywood, is one of the economic focal points of our area–the Great Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg–which is one of the country’s biggest tourist destinations.  Dolly has also been heavily involved with charities, among other things, establishing the Imagination Library which promotes literacy among young children. When it comes to doing things that actually benefit humanity, there is no comparison between Dolly and Gore.
